Microdisplay ProductsIn addition to manufacturing a variety of miniature CRTs, Lexel offers a line of flat panel microdisplays. These displays are less than 1”, light weight, low power, high resolution and low cost. The technology is based on fast ferroelectric liquid crystal on silicon (FLCOS) which make them ideally suited for a wide array of applications. The general market for microdisplays is largely viewfinders for camcorders and digital still cameras. However, these displays are well suited for any application requiring low power and light weight in either monochrome or full color. Microdisplays are expanding into markets for: Head Mounted Displays Individual Soldier Applications Simulation Hand Held Portable Displays Night Vision Rifle Sights Range Finding Medical Thermal Imaging Projection
Technology A microdisplay is a flat panel display less than one inch in diagonal, viewed through the use of magnification or projection optics. The display itself creates a high resolution image, typically smaller than a postage stamp, and is a critical component in displays for a wide variety of consumer products. Liquid crystal microdisplays allow the manipulation of light by electronic circuitry, enabling both operation at low applied voltages and easy fabrication in a wide variety of forms. The primary difference between these ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) and other liquid crystals is that FLCs are capable of switching ten to one hundred times faster. This means that FLC displays can be completely digital, employing highly accurate time division grayscale, as well as enabling smear-free motion video and single-panel projection. Other FLC benefits include smaller pixels allowing both higher resolution and smaller, low-cost silicon die --as well as wider optical acceptance angles. Products Model LDM-0311-DN is the world’s first single-chip near to eye display solution. It was designed for viewfinder applications, as well as any device requiring excellent image quality in a low power, compact package. The LV311 Display Module is a complete solution, incorporation the display panel with integrated interface and control circuitry, as well as the LED illumination and polarization optics. The unit is also available with a choice of two different 15x viewing optics. Detailed technical features can be read in the LDM-0311DN (digital) product data sheet and Engineering Specification. An evaluation kit LDM-311-EK is also available. Model NDP-0090-MV5 is an NTSC monochrome video display module. The unit has a resolution of 400x225 monochrome pixels within a .24inch (6.00mm) array diagonal. Detailed technical features can be read in the NDP Engineering Specification. This unit is also available with an 18x viewing optic.
